1-2-1 Canine Assessments

Maximus works to promote the well being of all dogs, therefore we require a completed Veterinary Consent Form and Dog Registration Form prior to your 1-2-1 Canine Assessment. This information, along with our own assessment, gives us the background information to take forward into developing a programme for your dog.

The Canine Assessment can take between 90 minutes and 2 hours dependent on the dog's nature. We will ask you to encourage your dog to do a number of non rhythmical and rhythmical exercises. We also take a number of measurements to determine muscle mass and identify any imbalances. You will learn how to measure during the Foundation Fitness course so you can see the progress your dog is making and note any changes.

How do we do that?

We will observe your dog in it's natural 'sit' and 'stand' position. Do they sit on one side? Do they have one limb pointing out or do their toes point inwards? Do they have any unusual flicks in their fur etc? Each breed has its own characteristics which are taken into account. We don't expect a Bulldog to have the same posture as a Collie!

We will then ask you to take your dog through three or four simple exercises to observe the way they move and whether they favour one limb/side etc?

Finally we will undertake gait analysis in walk, trot and, if possible, gallop - this aspect will be outside, so please ensure you are prepared for the weather conditions!
